Solar PV

A Solar photovoltaic system, or PV system, is designed to absorb and convert sunlight into electricity that can now also be used for hot water production, using surplus electricity, at low running cost and with no need for maintenance.

  • Our solar PVs are an affordable way of producing clean green energy to reduce your carbon emissions by efficiently producing electricity and hot water for your home.
  • Solar PV is the most economical way to meet the renewables requirements under Part L of the building regulations
  • Our systems are easy to fit with no pipework or pumps
  • All our product come with warranty as standard
  • Installation packages available or alternatively installer training can also be arranged as any roofer and electrician will be more than capable of installing our systems

Hot Water from Solar PV Panels – an obvious choice

Many households prefer not to export their surplus electricity to the grid. In Ireland there is no payment for exported power, and it is simple and easy to use this surplus to provide solar hot water.

You can install a PV system to heat water for a lower cost than most solar tube systems, with the advantage that there is no need to change the cylinder, no water system running up to the loft requiring regular maintenance or anti- freeze.

In the UK and elsewhere, numerous diversion devices have been developed to use your surplus electricity from a solar panel or wind turbine to heat water in the immersion cylinder.

A clamp sensor is put around a cable from your mains power coming into the house. When you are exporting more than about 50 watts of power, it tells the unit to start using power in the immersion heater.

Effectively the diversion device acts like a dimmer switch to turn up or down the power to the immersion based on the available excess electricity from the solar pv.

If you need hot water on a dull day, you can still use your regular boiler or immersion to provide this.

The Immersun can also alternate intelligently between two heaters, so if your immersion is fully heated, you can use your electricity to run another heating load such as electric storage heaters or electric underfloor heating.

While we can offer a number of different types of diversion device, we recommend Immersun units. Lower cost devices operate as a dimmer switch by turning on the heating load 100 times per second. This may cause electrical noise resulting in nearby devices such as ham radios buzzing. For that reason, we prefer to recommend high frequency switching systems as used by Immersun.
